How Stem Cells Help in Osteoarthritis

✔  Stem cells hold the power to develop an entire body from an embryo.

✔  They have a unique property to divide infinitely, and can develop into more specialized cell types.

✔  We have the technology to isolate stem cells and re-administer them into the body.

✔  On re-infusing them back into the body, the stem cells populate in the degenerated areas, and change their properties to match those of the resident cells.

✔  After isolating and enriching the viable stem cells, these are re-infused to the body through:

Direct Infusion: In this mode, stem cells are directly administered into the targeted joints.

IV Administration: In intravenous administration, cells are infused through veins. By expanding blood volumes using mannitol, it is ensured that a good number of cells reach the affected regions.

✔  By paracrine signalling (which is a form of communication at cellular level), the cells develop into damaged cartilage and bone, and improve blood flow.

✔  According to many research bodies such as the Canadian Stem Cell Foundation, Mesenchymal cells (MSCs) are flexible enough to differentiate to a number of osteogenic cell types, such as bones, fat, muscles, cartilage, bone marrow, and tendons.

✔  MSCs are known to:

    * Calm down the immune system

    * Fight inflammation

    * Promote development of blood vessel network

    * Repair damaged tissue

    * Assist in stem cell engraftment

    * Cartilage regeneration

We have the technology in Mexico to harness stem cells, and use them to treat arthritis.

As Seen On

Our Aim is to Make Stem Cells Therapy Affordable, Accessible, and Effective

For osteoarthritis, Stem cell treatment in Mexico is a new ray of hope for people for whom conventional therapy has not been successful. We also provide stem cell therapy for rheumatoid arthritis and other forms of arthritis.

Medical Tourism Corporation has teamed up with GIOSTAR in Mexico for making this unconventional therapy more accessible to the North Americans. The latter is a stem cell therapy and research institute founded by Dr. Anand Srivastava, a globally-recognized luminary in the field.

Why Us for Arthritis Stem Cell Therapy?

✔ More than 15 years of stem cell research
✔   Founded by leading stem cell scientist – Dr. Anand Srivastava
✔   Dr. Srivastava was instrumental in setting up stem cell research programs at various prestigious research institutes, such as Salk Institute for Biological Studies, San Diego; Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute, La Jolla, University of California, Irvine (UCI); University of California, San Diego (UCSD)
✔   Advisory council members associated with renowned institutions, such as the London Imperial College, UCI, UCSD, and Harvard

Reported Results

Our patients have reported the following after application of stem cells for knee repair and other orthopedic problems:
✔  100% easy to climb stairs
✔  Less trouble walking
✔  Do regular activities without pain
✔  Improved mobility

What Makes Our Arthritis Stem Cell Treatment Program Different?

We Analyze Each Case Individually

After thorough analysis of the medical report of a case, we formulate a personalized protocol compromising several applications to treat the problem completely.

Complete Set of Applications

While other stem cell treatment providers in Mexico usually do one application initially and then wait for results, before proceeding with another application say six or seven months later, we offer a complete treatment plan comprising three to four applications.

We Do Our Own In-House Research

We are not dependent on outside research and conduct our own in-house investigative work as stem cell is a continuously changing science. As mentioned earlier, the founder of GIOSTAR has been instrumental in setting up research facility at various prestigious institutions around the globe.

We Use Only Human Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells

Another factor that sets us apart from other stem cell programs in Mexico is that we use only human induced pluripotent stem cells. These are also known as iPS cells or iPSCs. On separation, these are adult cells with limited functions. Using state-of-the-art technology in our laboratory, we reverse the aging process of the cells, and reprogram them to act just like embryonic cells which are pluripotent or master cells. These cells can be further differentiated and assigned specific functions. IPSCs do not have any ethical issues associated with embryonic cells.

What is Osteoarthritis?

It is a degenerative disease primarily affecting the knees, hips, back, and finger joints.

✔  It is caused by breakage of the cartilage, which provides cushioning to the joints and a friction-less surface between them.

✔  Breaking down of cartilage can result in:

      *  Pain

      *  Swelling

      *  Problem moving joints

✔  Further degeneration with passage of time results in bones becoming brittle and developing extra growth called “spurs.”

✔  Chipped off pieces of bones and cartilage may also float around in the joints.

✔  This is followed by an inflammatory response in the body, which may result in development of enzymes and protein; this may further destroy the cartilage.

✔  With further progression of arthritis, the cartilage comes off and the exposed joints rub against each other further damaging them and resulting in pain.

Risk Factors for Osteoarthritis

✔   Arthritis Symptoms Infographic Certain genetic traits

✔  Being overweight

✔  Joint injuries

✔  Repetitive moments, such as in sports

✔  Certain occupations requiring:
*  Standing for long intervals
*  Repeated bending
*  Lifting heavy weights

✔  Other bone and joint disorders such as:
*  Rheumatoid arthritis
*  Hemochromatosis, a metabolic disorder that results in excess accumulation of iron
*  Acromegaly, which results in excess production of the growth hormone
