Below is the video and transcript of the interview with Dr K Ramachandran. Dr Ramachandran has done fellowships and training in renowned cosmetic surgery centers in the United States, France, and Germany. Dr Ramachandran has written many scientific papers and two chapters in a textbook.

”Am Dr Ramachandran. I did my basic training in India. My training includes general surgery and plastic surgery. I did fellowships in the US and in Europe in plastic surgery. That was between 1984-86. Since then, I have been practicing at Apollo Hospital. That’s almost 22 years.

My field is totally confined to aesthetic surgery.

My main fellowship was with a group called Baker Gordon. They are located in Miami, Florida. Their work is mostly facial surgery.

Then, I visited few other centers in Texas and Chicago. Subsequently, when I moved to Europe, it was mostly for body work.

I spent time in France with a surgeon called E Luce, who was a pioneer in body contour surgery, and with other well-known plastic surgeons in Germany.

Most of the patients come for body surgery, like abdominoplasty (tummy tuck) or breast augmentation or reduction. Some of them do come for facial aesthetics.

As far as infection and [operation] theater is concerned, I don’t think we have any problem. Because, it’s been 22 years now that I have been practicing in this very hospital, and there’s yet to be a problem with infection.

In terms of results, I think that is surgeon-based. I don’t think that’s got anything to do with the center [in which the operation was done]. It’s the technique. I am sure that there are good doctors everywhere.

From our side, we try to put in the best we can to make sure that the results are as good as possible. Basically, as long as the expectations of the individual are down-to-earth and reasonable… we never promise them [the patients] the moon. And if they understand that this is what can be done and the limitations based on certain clinical situations, I don’t think there should be any problem.

A patient who is not realistic can always be a problem anywhere.

We have had patients from the UK, US, from the East like Singapore, Malaysia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Maldives, Seychelles, etc.

My message to patients from abroad: Get the Apollo experience. We try and do our best to make the patients as comfortable as possible. We are reasonably personalized in what we do. We really care for the patient. It’s not just one more individual, the patient is really special to us.”
